Hope you can come to support this meaningful event on Sunday, June 9th, from 6pm to 11pm, at Saigon Seafood Restaurant on 270 Adams St, Dorchester! This dinner/concert fundraiser is organized by a group of young individuals from the Vietnamese community in Boston. Participants in this event, including musicians, singers, dancers, and MC, are all contributing their time and effort to share the pain and loss of our own community members, the family of Martin Richard who live in Dorchester, as a result of the Boston Marathon bombing. Tickets are $30, including food; $5 more if purchased at the door. All proceeds from ticket sales and raffles, and donations will go directly to the family of Martin Richard or the Richard Family Fund.

Every week the show offers a unique window into immigrant communities in New England.

Martin Richard, 8, was killed in the explosion, while his sister Jane, 7, suffered a grievous injury to her leg. Their mom, Denise, was also badly hurt in the blast and underwent emergency surgery yesterday to save her life.
Word of the injuries spread quickly through the Richard family’s tight-knit Ashmont-Adams neighborhood, where both parents are known and respected as civic leaders. Bill Richard served as board chairman of the St. Mark’s Area Main Street group and has played a key role in the transformation of Peabody Square over the last decade. The family is deeply involved in all facets of life in Dorchester, from little league baseball and soccer to their church, St. Ann’s parish in Neponset.

In response to the bombings at yesterday’s Boston Marathon, a service of reflection and prayer is being held tonight (Tuesday) for the Dorchester community at First Parish in Dorchester, 10 Parish St., Meetinghouse Hill at 6:00 PM.

All are invited (regardless of faith, race, class, sex, or sexual orientation) to meet with their friends, relatives, and neighbors to support each other during this difficult time.

VietAID will host a meeting with BRIDGES, an acronym which stands for Building Respect In Diverse Groups to Enhance Sensitivity. BRIDGES is a partnership between federal law enforcement agencies and community leaders in various communities. BRIDGES provides a forum to address issues of mutual concern and to foster better understanding between diverse communities and the US government law enforcement agencies. BRIDGES addresses issues such as border crossings, no-fly lists, charitable giving, cultural sensitivity, hate crimes, law enforcement policies and procedures, and immigration.
We would like to invite you to meet with the US Attorney Carmen Ortiz, the Director of FBI New England Region, Richard DesLauriers, and MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at our center on 42 Charles St, Dorchester. This BRIDGES meeting at VietAID will be about civil rights issues involving new immigrants, such as those of Vietnamese, Cape Verdeans, and Bangladesh in the Dorchester area.
