Viet-AID partnered with the ICA Group to establish Win-Win Cleaning—a commercial cleaning social venture that has created employment and business opportunities for immigrants. Since its inception in May 2002, Win-Win Cleaning has provided micro-enterprise opportunities for either newly arrived, unemployed, or low-income Vietnamese, El Salvadorian, and Bosnian immigrants. The social venture has been designed to (1) facilitate access to business opportunities in new markets for immigrants in Boston’s low-income communities; (2) assist Vietnamese and other immigrant communities in creating new businesses and jobs for their peers; (3) change business and employment practices in the Vietnamese community; and, (4) develop a scalable, replicable economic development model for Viet-AID. The advantage of this structure is that Win-Win Cleaning has provided access to customers and contracts that the immigrant entrepreneurs could not easily obtain on their own due to limited English abilities and insufficient marketing skills.
