VietAID Scholarly Program for Youth (VSPY): Established in 2010, VSPY offers a licensed summer and afterschool program for students in the 1st through 8th grades. VSPY provides affordable, high-quality, out-of-school-time programming for local, underserved youth to foster a sense of belonging and independence through a combination of experiential learning, family involvement, educational support, and community engagement. The afterschool program operates from 2:00-6:00pm between early October and the end of May every day that Boston Public Schools are in session. The six-week summer program runs from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday. VSPY students have homework time, one-on-one tutoring, and academic enrichment classes, as well as fitness time, cultural education, and mentorship from high school and college students.
VietAID Leadership Alliance (VALA): VALA is a youth leadership program for high school students. VALA youth meet four times a week with a different focus for each day’s workshop: leadership development and civic engagement; financial literacy; building job skills; college readiness and college access (including applying to college and for financial aid); project planning for community projects; and mentorship.
