In 2002 Viet AID completed construction and opened the Vietnamese American Community Center on Charles Street in Fields Corner/Dorchester. This was the first and remains the only Vietnamese American Community Center in the US. The Center was developed following a four year capital campaign, led by the CEO of Citizens Bank, that drew on the support of local Vietnamese residents, major corporations, local and national foundations and the City of Boston. Today the Center is the home of VietAID and its Au Co Preschool Center and the Kit Clark Senior Services adult day care program, serving elderly Vietnamese residents. A number of local Vietnamese cultural organizations are members of the Center, and run regular programs including Boys and Girls Scouts, table tennis, Vietnamese language fundamentals training and martial arts training. Several non-profit organizations maintain their offices and programs at the Center including Associated Early Care and Education and Close to Home, non-profits that have partnered with Viet AID on several initiatives.
