Boston Public Health Commission to host health forum in Fields Corner

BOSTON – The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) and community partners are coming together to host a forum on family health, with a special focus on sexual health and chronic disease, on Wednesday, June 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dorchester House Multi-Service Center. In addition to Dorchester House, other partners include the Boston Alliance for Community Health, Boston Healthy Homes and Schools, Carney Hospital, the Harvard School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health, and Mujeres Unidas Avanzadas. The event will feature a panel discussion with Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Executive Director of BPHC, Dr. Gabrielle Bercy of Carney Hospital, and Dr. Holly Goodale of Dorchester House.
Starting at 5 p.m., guests can receive a free airway health screening provided by staff from the Harvard School of Public Health’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Walgreens will also be on hand to provide free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.
“This is a great opportunity for us to come together with the community in Fields Corner to have a conversation about how we continue to improve the health of the entire neighborhood,” said Dr. Ferrer. “Everyone has a role to play, and I’m excited for the discussion and to hear the ideas that folks bring to the table.”
The second in a series of citywide health meetings this year, the Fields Corner forum is a chance for people living and working in the community to receive the latest health information and to discuss ways in which the community can promote healthier living. Community members, clinicians, and public health professionals will discuss sexual health in Fields Corner and ways to prevent chronic diseases such as cervical cancer. The forum’s organizers are interested in working collaboratively with residents, businesses, community agencies, faith-based institutions, elected officials, and others to develop action steps that will help build a stronger, healthier Fields Corner.
The event is free and open to the public. A light dinner will be served, and translation services in Spanish and Vietnamese will be available. Residents of all ages, providers, organizations, youth groups, parents, seniors, and local leaders are encouraged to attend. Anyone requiring special accommodations should RSVP by June 24th to Mary Truong at 617-288-3230 or Mary.Truong@dorchesterhouse.org.
